FLOSS 500 Synthetic Fluid Loss and Gas Migration Control Additive

Manufactured by Oil Energy, Russia
ФЛОСС 500 (FLOSS 500) понизитель фильтрации и газоблокатор для цементирования скважин

Product description

Patent RU2763586C1
FLOSS 500 is a synthetic fluid loss control additive and gas migration control agent for cement slurries used in primary cementing of oil and gas wells. The product is designed to reduce fluid loss from cement slurry, improve sedimentation stability, and help control migration of gas and interzonal fluids during well cementing operations.
In cementing applications, excessive fluid loss can affect slurry stability and may contribute to cement sheath porosity, interzonal flow, and reduced zonal isolation. FLOSS 500 is used where stable slurry properties, controlled filtration, pumpability, and reliable cement placement are required.

FLOSS 500 has been developed and is serially manufactured by Oil Energy, the first manufacturer of synthetic fluid loss control additives in Russia. The product is part of Oil Energy’s range of chemical additives and reagents for cementing systems used in oil and gas wells.

Physical Properties and Chemical Composition

FLOSS 500 is a synthetic copolymer based on organic acids and acrylamide derivatives. It belongs to the AMPS copolymer family and is not a cellulose-based fluid loss additive.

Its chemical basis includes 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid and acrylamide derivatives. The sulfonic group contributes to resistance to salts and elevated temperatures, while the polymer structure provides water solubility and fluid loss control in cement slurry systems.

Benefits

  • -1-
FLOSS 500 reduces fluid loss from cement slurries and helps maintain the required filtration performance under well cementing conditions
  • -2-
The additive acts as a gas migration control agent, helping prevent and block the migration of interzonal fluids through the cement system during the transition period
  • -3-
FLOSS 500 does not affect cement slurry thickening time or the strength-development period of the set cement
  • -4-
The product increases the sedimentation stability of cement slurry at dosages from 0.5% BWOC
  • -5-
FLOSS 500 maintains its effectiveness in the presence of high concentrations of sodium chloride and calcium chloride
  • -6-
Compatible with most plasticizers and with all cement types, including PCT I-S-SS1, PCT I-50, PCT I-100, and other cement grades used in well cementing

Application and Dosage Recommendations

FLOSS 500 is intended for cement slurries used in the cementing of oil and gas wells. It may be selected for cementing systems that require controlled fluid loss, stable rheological properties, sedimentation stability, and gas migration control.

  • Operating temperature range: from 0 to 200 °C.
  • Recommended dosage: from 0.2 to 1.0% BWOC (by weight of cement), depending on the required fluid-loss and rheological parameters.
  • Mixing method: the additive can be introduced into the dry cement blend or added to the mix water.

The final dosage should be selected based on the required slurry performance, cement composition, water quality, presence of salts, well temperature, and the target fluid-loss specification.

Technical Data

The product is used in cement slurry formulations where the objective is to maintain a stable slurry during pumping and placement, followed by the development of a cement sheath that supports effective zonal isolation.
API 10B-2 / ISO 10426-2 fluid-loss test conditions
API 10B-2 / ISO 10426-2 fluid-loss test conditions: the page presents a fluid-loss reduction chart for a cement slurry with a density of 1.92 g/cm³, tested at 65 °C (150 °F). The chart shows results as FLOSS 500 concentration increases from 0.4% to 0.8% BWOC.

Packaging and Storage Conditions

FLOSS 500 is supplied in 25 kg bags. A standard pallet contains 40 bags.
Store the product in closed, undamaged packaging in covered and dry warehouse facilities. Keep away from heating equipment, direct sources of moisture, and conditions that may compromise the packaging or product quality.

Q&A from Oil Energy Experts

FLOSS 500 has been developed and is serially manufactured by Oil Energy LLC in Berezovsky, Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia, using the company’s own S-1 synthesis line.

Control over the synthesis process enables Oil Energy to manage polymer quality, maintain stable product characteristics, and support reproducible results in cement slurry formulations. For oil and gas operators and service companies, this means local, full-cycle production of a specialized chemical additive for well cementing.
